Biography

Ralph Cashen is an actor who works out of the New York and New England area. He grew up immersed in the performing arts from a young age, both onstage and behind the scenes through his involvement with the Harwich Junior Theatre on Cape Cod. This led him to pursue his Associate's Degree in Acting at the Los Angeles City College Theatre Academy, where he took the role of Andrew Undershaft in George Bernard Shaw's Major Barbara, and thus began a life long love and pursuit to master accents from the British Isles.

Ralph's favorite roles have been as Robert, the eccentric professor and father in David Auburn's play Proof at the Beacon Theatre in Beacon, New York in 2013, and Jimmy, neighborhood curmudgeon in the film Year by the Sea in 2016, based on Joan Anderson's best-selling novel.

Ralph enjoys playing unconventional characters - and especially grouchy, addled, or sinister ones. He is often cast not only for his acting skills but also his striking features, which include his fierce eyebrows and outlandish hair. He was extremely pleased to be cast as Warden Cox in The Escape of Prisoner 614, in which he was able to bring both his acerbic humor and famously malevolent scowl to bear.

When he isn't acting, Ralph enjoys other aspects of the theatrical world. He is famous amongst family and friends for his skills in costume design and makeup, and has transformed many a person including himself into an award-winning Halloween creation. His skills also extend to set design, and he once built a highly-praised moving set for the Culver City Civic Light Opera's production of Westside Story, not only in his apartment living room but also on an extremely small budget! In the non-theatrical world, Ralph is a skilled horseman in both riding and buggy-driving, and has placed competitively for his achievements.
